Changing Climates, Ecosystems and Environments of Arid Southern Africa

A Tribute to Louis Scott

- Bloemfontein 7-11 July 2014 -

Please note: Registration is now closed. Applications to attend the post-conference excursion are also closed.

Louis Scott (Dept. of Plant Sciences, University of the Free State), is one of the leading scholars in the world in the fields of Quaternary Palaeobotany and Palaeoecology and has made an outstanding contribution to teaching and research in South Africa and on the international front.
Louis has recently retired, but is continuing his active research career. We are organising a conference to celebrate his contribution to palaeoscience and to the natural sciences in general.
The conference is co-organised by the National Museum, Bloemfontein, & the University of the Free State, and will focus on both past and present environments, ecosystems and climates of the arid regions of southern Africa, an area that serves as major focus of Louis’ research.
We would like to welcome professionals and students working in these fields to present papers and posters at the conference to be held on the 7th – 11th July 2014 at the University of the Free State Bloemfontein, South Africa. The programme includes a two-day post-conference excursion to fossil sites in the central and western interior of South Africa.
